NoCal in July

Familia,

It's time for me to accompany Joe in Northern Cali for a little while again.I got here last Thursday night, had dinner in Downtown Palo Alto and set out to do my exploring in Santa Clara, where our hotel is, on Friday. The weather is PERFECT. They're experiencing a "Cold Front", so temps are in the mid 70's.....Aaaahhhhhh!!!!

On Saturday we changed hotels, from Palo Alto to Santa Clara (Better beds, Joe says). Joe took care of some work stuff and we headed out to Gilroy, where the Annual Gilroy Garlic Festival was going on. As most of you know, our family is not fond of garlic (YES, we're aware of all the nutritional value, etc )and IT is not fond of us either. So I have no pictures or stories to tell you......other than the whole time we were in Gilroy, walking around and exploring, we could smell nothing but GARLIC......roated, sauteed, marinated.....you name it....we smelled it!

On Sunday , after work-out and sun bathing by the pool, we headed out to Sonoma via Downtown San Francisco. Joey and Julie always told us to make sure to take a "jacket", not just sweater or wind breaker, but a JACKET if you're going to spend ANY time in San Fran........and YES......it was cold, windy and in some parts rainy, in the City by the Bay. It's like driving into La Dimension Desconocida....

Golden Gate Bridge

SF Capitol

Do you know the way to Sonoma & Napa ? Notice how sunny it is, just a few miles north of SF ?

Papi fell in love with Sonoma; he said he could live there NOW. It is very picturesque and it has a super positive energy flow, PLUS it's Sunny, most of the time.

Sonoma Park

On our way back we stopped in Sausalito for dinner at Scoma Restaurant on the water

San Francisco view from Sausalito

Local Fruit from the Fruit Basket Market in Sonoma

Last Night we realized that we only have a couple of nights left in Sunny Cali before we head back to Colorful CO........SO......before heading out to dinner we had Happy Hour in our room

We had dinner at Parcel 104, a restaurant famous for serving ALL locally grown food. The menu changes every day, based on what Chef Carlos Sanchez gets that very same day, from local growers. Joey and Julie visited the restaurant a couple of times when they lived in San Jose. The Best Part....The Restaurant is IN our hotel !!

Joe and I could not just enjoy ALL Locally Grown Food without a nice bottle of Alexander Valley Silver Oak Cabernet ...It was Awesome!!

Monterey Heirloom Tomato Soup

Half Moon Bay Greens

I should have taken pictures of our Main Entress, Pork Loin Chop for Joe and Spearfish for me.....but I guess I was overly excited when we got our entrees...and we just ATE them. They were beautifully presented and tasted heavenly.

Dessert: Passion Fruit Milkshake, Berry Whipped ice Cream, Mini Lava Cake, Chocolate Mousse

Later on today, and tomorrow, I'm heading out to explore the land of McCaffee, Yahoo, EMC2, all company headquarters in this area of Santa Clara.
The flowers are just SO Amazing (I'm so amazing!) I must take pictures and share them with you all. No, it's not "a threat"....Counselor.....

Are you a MexiCAN?

Familia,

Our Real Estate Broker in Puerto Vallarta sent us this picture and I think it's definitely good enough to share !

Workers in Mexico do not dwell too much on things like workman's comp, safety guidelines or suing the guilty party; it's basically a
"Just Do It " Mentality.

Both Vicky and Florrie are Canadian and both are Real Estate Brokers in Puerto Vallarta.

ENJOY!!

Comment # 1:
A real life shot I took a couple of years ago when La Joya Huanacaxtle Development was being finished. Some of you may have seen it before. This is the 4th floor painting crew and their tools of the trade.

Best to all,
Vicky

Comment # 2:
This is an example of what we love about the culture. Mexicans are resourceful!!
They will do what it takes to get the job done - our lads could learn a thing or two about that.

All the best,
Florrie

Las Muchachas- Lake McConaughy, Ogallala, NE

The Muchachas - A group of friends that have known each other for an avarage of 15 years, some longer. We all worked in the Hospitality Industry long ago, and have moved on since (except for Sherri). There are 8 to 10 of us, and we've done a lot of working, laughing, crying, partying and story telling together for many years; and we continue to get together as often as possible.

Last weekend, 3 of us accepted an invitation from Rox and her family to spend a day or two at Lake McConaughy, Nebraska's largest lake with over 100 miles of shoreline, fresh water in Ogallala, NE, population 5,500. Roxy's back deck faces the beautiful lake.

Rox and Bob have been married for almost 20 years and have 3 beautiful daughters ages 14 to 19. We celebrated birthdays for Dayna (the youngest of the Muchachas....we're just a bunch of spring chickens) and Dylan (Heidi's 16 year old son) We were introduced to the beauty of the Lake by amazing hospitality and warmth from Roxy's family and friends, and it was a very special time.

Bob Welsh, Roxy's husband, was Sky Ski World Champion for two consecutive years in the 90's. This sport requires unbelievable focus, strenght, perseverance and cojones! So if you see someone out on the water flying above the water's surface and getting huge air and you're asking yourself "what was that thing they were riding?!" Well, it was a hydrofoil.

Up SO High !!!

No way Senor Roberto....a Sumersault ????

JOELY & DANIEL- THE WEDDING- JUNE 26/2010

"As our love unites us,
May my family become your family,
My friends your friends."

THE ARRIVAL:
Because reservations were made at different times, and we were flying in 2 different airlines ,the plan, when we got to Mexico City on Wednesday was:

Jessica and Joely would pick up J&J and Steph at the airport, and take Julie directly to the Seamstress , I'm sorry, The Designer (she kept correcting people) to make sure Julie's bridesmaid dress fit.

Joe, Josh and I would rent a car and drive to the hotel, where we'd meet the 4 J's and Melissa and go out to dinner somewhere around the hotel.

It actually did happen that way, but it took a much longer time than anticipated, as we got to Mexico right at rush hour and since it's rainy season, the city was flooded. SO, instead of meeting at around 8/8:30 pm, we ended up meeting at 11 pm. Our first meal in the City was Tacos at El Fogoncito, YUM !!!

Josh & Steph waiting for Tacos de Bistec y Al Carbon. They were just SO excited about ALL the new food possibilities.

J&J : Julie ordered Tacos Al Carbon and Joey ordered EVERYTHING !

Joely was cool as a cucumber for a Bride that had just gotten married (Justice of the peace) that same DAY! She and Jessica actually went straight to the airport from their Comida de Casados (Just Married Luncheon)

THURSDAY
Jessica offered to take us to the Ciudadela Market (The Citadel) in the early afternoon, and we'd meet Joely & Meli for a late lunch afterwards.

Waiting for Jessica outside the hotel.

Julie telling Josh & Steph that when they lived in Mexico City for almost 2 years some time ago, they (J&J) used to live in Polanco, the same area where our hotel was.

Jose & Jose

After our trip to the Ciudadela, we kept getting lost following Jessica's SUV in our rental car. Everytime we thought we had lost her for good and we were heading back to the hotel, she kept "appearing" on foot from back streets, telling us where to turn around and what streets to take. It took some incredible ingenuity and some really big cojones to do what she did: move her car out of the traffic flow, wait for the heavy traffic to go by, and throw the car in reverse, going against crazy Mexico City traffic, to try to find us in our red jetta. I'm sure J&J, who were riding with Jess, learned a lot of new curse words from all the drivers Jess was pi__ing off. I swear, we'd be waiting at a red light, thinking we'd lost her again....and there she would appear again, running on foot.......making signs on how and where to follow her. We'd stop at another red light, thinking, "o.k, this is it, we have really lost her now"......NOOOO......she'd be right behind us AGAIN.......SO her new name is "JPS" as in GPS, don't leave home without one.

AND....we finally made it to El Bajio Restaurant for a late lunch......and it was worth the wait......Oh yeah........

Moon's Enchiladas Verdes

Steph's Pollo con Mole

FRIDAY:

After a fantastic breakfast at the hotel, we met Jessica, Meli & Joely and caravaned to Xochitepec, about an hour and a half drive from Mexico City. It was a beautiful, clear, morning and we got to see some lush, green, fresh areas in the outskirts of the City.

The girl in the back, with the tattoo on her shoulder, is our cousin, Erica, whom I had not seen in 25 years. Erica and her boyfriend were amazing ballroom dancers.

It was a wonderful occasion and memories will be forever treasured
