Hello family,

Well it’s been awhile since I wrote in the Avacado so here is what’s been happening with Amy and I lately…..

In August we celebrated our 37th wedding anniversary. We spent our anniversary in our home away from home (Salida) and we count our blessing each day to still be together, in love, and to have such a wonderful family and so many good friends!!!!!!!!!

As we are so far behind in our posting….and a picture is worth a thousand words….this blog is mostly pictures of what we’ve been up to since our last blog

Elk hunting in late August and early September. I did get a cow elk with my bow....but not wanting to offend the weak of heart....I won't put a picture of my "dead elk" on the blog.

That's all for now....

Love to everyone in our families!

"I Am From" by Suzanne- 2008

“I Am From”
By Suzanne, Fall 2008
I am from rooms of different colors, an almost completed mosaic coffee table salvaged from the soon to be Goodwill stash, awaiting the perfect piece. I am from a half painted ceiling mural of beautiful clouds that makes my arms burn, but lifts my soul into the glorious universe. I am from bird feathers and plumes, volumes of animal soundtracks, nuts and seeds on the floor twenty-four seven, a smorgasbord that draws wild squirrels in through the doggie door.
I am from a back breaking planting of Perennials, that replace the grass and feed part of the world without asking for much water.
I am from multitudes of different cultured neighborhoods, some trashed, some immaculate, some wooded, some by the sea, big cities with dirty air, small towns with Southern accents and fresh air, all contributing to the who I am. I am from short sighted and impatient Aurora that can’t see my bigger picture, and won’t allow more than twelve inches of dirt between plants and a break to these stiff knees; Aurora that tells me to pluck out herbs they believe to be weeds, those herbs that I bought with money I didn‘t have. I love my view.
I am from fields of corn, cows licking milk off each other’s faces, electric fences that my Grandpa let zap me through his shielding body and a leaf, Grandma’s Root Beer in mini bottles made of green glass. I am from “Thirteen feet of fun”, who played the guitar I inherited on a Chicago radio show. I am from swimming across rivers on horseback with suitcases tied to the saddles, “if you get sucked down by a whirlpool, let it take you down to the bottom of the river, push off, up through the middle, take a breath of air and yell “Help!” I am from twelve hour trips to visit distant relatives where I had to peel my butt off of the saddle, candles stuck on the wall for light and constant running ice cold water piped up from the river with bamboo.
I am from “Sut up littol gurl, you can’t say dat, you can’t do dat!” (Gabey) I am from “You don’t do dat you bad ting!” (Vietnamese accent) I am from “There is plenty of running water, you just have to go to the river to catch it.” (Kenchi) I am from “Senorita, en el garash hay unos tu- bai- fors por si quieren hacer unos cheos.” (Mexican accent)
I am from aromatic herbs that dance through the house to Bossa Nova and Salsa, permeate my nose hairs and leave my taste buds and zoo animals begging for more.
I am from where my mind goes when my eyes stare aimlessly, or look up toward the ceiling, tears pooling, seeing chapters of languages, sounds, foreign smells, hugs to say hello, kisses on both cheeks, kisses on one cheek, good luck rubs on Johnny‘s blonde head, good luck touching of eyes not tainted with fear, exotic music, conversations with family and souls I’ll never see in body again.

Don't let the Leg Bugs bite

Night time Guest:

A good sizee beetle was exploring the vast expanse of our house on Corona St. It was probably a perilous journey which includes avoiding our cat P.J, finding an adequate entry to the bedroom and finding a good joint to hang out in this new town. After the journey the beetle had found refuge in the middle of a large, soft pile of cloth on the floor. Figuring it was more comfortable than the hardwood floors, the beetle decided to make itself comfortable for a while...

This Morning:

Today I woke up, showered, ate a breakfast of oatmeal and fruit smoothie and headed off to work. On the way I stopped at Caribou Cofee for a large Dark Roast Drip. when I got to work I resumed my daily work activities of drafting software architecture proposals for telecom companies. Extremely focused on solving a problem for a London based telecom provider, I began answering emails to fill in design details for a pending proposal. As I continued to work my focus on software became weaker as I began to percieve an piercing itch on my left knee. I looked down at my knee and noticed a large lump under my jeans. I pressed the lump and heard a crunch. Standing up to shake the unknown mass out of my left pant leg, I found that it was the nightime vacationer mentioned in the earlier part of this posting.. I had carried a beettle in my pants all the way from home to coffee shop to work.. Go figure..

MELISSA'S BIRTHDAY

Melissa, our niece who lives in Mexico City, turned 17 years old on September 21st. When her Mom, Jessica, (Raquel's sister) asked her what she wanted for her birthday, Melissa said she wanted to fly to Denver to pick up Vinny. Vinny is a 4 year old chocolate colored chihuahua Sue adopted around March of this year. Melissa and her Mom, Jessica, were looking for a boy chihuahua that would keep their girl chihuahua, Blanca, company. (I hope you got all that) .

SO, we had this great adoption fit and figured we'd come up for a way to get Vinny to his new home in Mexico City. Although it took a while to make it happen, Melissa flew in last Saturday, spent 2 days with us, and took Vinny back with her.

The trip was so FAST we actually didn't take pictures of Melissa and Vinny together , which is a real shame, as they looked so perfect with each other. I told Sue that when we took Melissa to the airport on Tuesday, she was wearing her skinny jeans, her pink rain boots up to the knee, her long, silky, black hair was down, a pink hoodie, (Pink IS her favorite color) the bag that Joey and Julie gave her for her birthday and Vinny pressed against her chest. She just looked like the PARIS HILTON OF MEXICO CITY.

People were flocking to her to see Vinny up close and to pet and talk to him, the baggage guys, the security guards, the vendors , the fellow travellers..........It was a sight to appreciate and I'm very sorry we didn't have our camera at the airport.
We did take other pictures during the two fast and furious days she was here. We hope you enjoy them.

Sue, thanks for taking care of Vinny until we could get him to his new home, and the home of his ancestors. I've told the story of Vinny, the chihuahua from Denver that went to live in Mexico City, and people say "Isn't that turned around ?.... Backwards ? .....Aren't you supposed to be able to get Chihuahuas in Mexico ????.....Not this one.......and let me tell you...HE IS SPECIAL!

THE BIRTHDAY GIRL.

Josh decided to practice his Spanish with his cousin and kept telling Meli "El Vinny esta Padrisimo!"

With the Cali Couple : They sang Meli a song in Spanish that they learned when they worked in Mexico City , about a girl who's 17 : "Dies y Siete Anos....."Amigo.. Sabes... acabo de conocer....... Una mujer......" They know ALL the words and Jumie was even doing the correct intonations. How can they remember after all these years ?

Meli takes Dance lessons in Mexico and was teaching uncle Joe how to dance CAPOEIRA, a dance form incorporating martial arts elements, originating in Brazil as a system of physical discipline and movement.

Meli ducking down so Joe would kick his leg over her head..............but for some reason, Joe kept ducking down too..............HA, HA, HA....

With Uncle Joe.

HELL'S ANGELS ON THE ELEKTRA GLIDE.......Joe took Meli to the Castle Rock Outlets to return some merchandise.

AND ON THE FAT BOY.

!FELIZ CUMPLEANOS MELI!
